PODER Final Conference and CEPR Annual Symposium on Development Economics

STICERD, London School of Economics 9 – 10 June
Scientific Organisers:

Oriana Bandiera (LSE and CEPR)

Eliana La Ferrara (Bocconi University and CEPR)

Joana Naritomi (LSE)

The CEPR annual symposium of the Development Economics Programme will be hosted by STICERD, London School of Economics on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 June, 2017. The meeting will be held jointly with the Policy Design and Evaluation Research in Developing Countries (PODER), the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and the International Growth Centre (IGC).

We invite submissions for this conference from interested researchers on any topic within the area of Development Economics. A subset of the papers will be considered for a joint session with the IGC State programme, covering the areas of public organisations, public finance, governance and political economy.

The deadline for submission is March 14 2017. Only full-length papers will be considered.

The PODER Complementary Skills Workshop on ‘Research Impact' will precede the main conference, taking place on Thursday 8th June. This is a training school and is for PODER Fellows (current and past) only. Please use the same submission process (mentioning “Complementary Skills Workshop” in your application) if you are a PODER Fellow and would like to attend this part of the conference. Please note PODER Fellows do not need to submit a paper to attend this workshop; it is open to all Fellows.

A pre-conference session will also be arranged for junior faculty and PODER fellows to get the opportunity to present their work. Please use the same submission process (mentioning “Pre-Conference” in your application) if you would like your work to be considered for this part of the conference.

CEPR can cover accommodation and travel according to the new CEPR guidelines for all presenters and a limited number of general participants. For current PODER Team Members and Fellows, the reimbursement of travel costs will be handled by the local nodes. Some funding is also available for external participants and previous PODER Fellows, but cannot be guaranteed at this stage. IGC can provide funding for participants from the IGC network.

Authors who are CEPR members can upload their submission on http://dev3.cepr.org/accounts/login.asp?NewURL=/accounts/config/accountconfig.asp. Authors who are not CEPR members can email their submission to Chloe Smith at [email protected]. Please indicate in your email whether you will be able to cover your own travel and accommodation costs, or whether you will require funding from CEPR.

All papers presented at the conference will be selected through this open submissions process. Please note that there will be time for only a small number of presentations. The conference lasts about a day and a half; there are no parallel sessions.

Please note, all PODER Fellows (current and past) must apply if they wish to attend this Conference and specify in the ‘Comments’ section of your application or email whether you wish to attend the Complementary Skills Workshop and/ or the pre-conference also. Should PODER Fellows wish to attend only the Complementary Skills Workshop and not the conference, please email Chloe Smith directly.
