Alessandro Tondini

Alessandro is a PhD candidate at the Paris School of Economics and a PODER fellow at the University of Cape Town, within the SALDRU research unit. His research interests are at the intersection of labour and development economics, with a particular focus on the effect of specific policies on occupational choice. His first paper looks at the impact of an unconditional cash transfer in South Africa, the Child Support Grant, on workers’ allocation between the formal and informal sectors.

Anand Shrivastava

Anand was a PODER fellow at Université de Namur. His research project is titled ‘Political Economy of Land’. He worked on a model of civil conflict over natural resources, like land, and the effect of changes in wages and state capacity on conflict.

Andrea Guariso

Andrea was a PODER fellows at Stockholm University working on evaluating the impact of an innovative entrepreneurial model of Community Health Delivery in Uganda, by which Community Health Workers operate as micro-entrepreneurs with an implicit piece-rate compensation scheme.

David Smerdon

David is a PhD candidate in economics at the Tinbergen Institute and the University of Amsterdam, and currently a PODER fellow at Bocconi University in Milan. Before starting his PhD, he worked for the Australian Treasury in Canberra as a policy analyst in the areas of financial market regulation and Australia’s foreign aid programme. David’s main research fields are behavioural and development economics, often pursued through the use of lab or field experiments.

Divya Dev

Divya is a PhD candidate in Economics at University College London and a PODER fellow. She is currently working on the evaluation of the Indian Reservation Policy on election outcomes with a particular focus on women’s participation in local governments and their impact on sanitation and drinking water facilities.

Elif Kubilay

Elif Kubilay is a PODER fellow in Bocconi University and is currently working on a project titled “Social Networks and Informal Institutions”. Here, they aim to understand the effects of random wealth shocks on the marriage market in Bangladesh through their impact on dowries. With Assist. Prof. Selim Gulesci, she is working on a working paper titled “Assortative Matching in the Marriage Markets: Evidence from Bangladesh”.
