Michela Carlana

Michela Carlana is a PhD candidate in Economics at Bocconi University and she is a PODER fellow at Stockholm University. She is working on evaluating the impact of an innovative randomized program that provided tutoring and career counseling to a random sample of immigrant children displaying high academic potential. Furthermore, she is studying the role of teachers’ gender stereotypes in affecting students’ outcomes.

Niklas Heusch

Niklas is a PhD candidate in Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a PODER fellow at the Paris School of Economics, working on the project “Contraints to agricultural technology adoption” under Karen Macours. He has previously worked for Innovations for Poverty Action in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and conducted field work in Ghana and India. His PhD research examines the economics of private health care provision and child health in Ghana.

Nouhoum Traore

Nouhoum Traore is currently a PhD candidate in applied economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests lie in the field of trade, industrial organization, and development economics. As a PODER fellow at Paris School of Economics (PSE), Nouhoum is working on evaluating the impact of agricultural preferential agreements in developing countries. He graduated, summa cum laude, from Hunter College - City University of New York with a BA/MA in economics and math and worked as a project coordinator for Innovations for Poverty Actions (IPA) for two years.

Olivia Bertelli

Olivia was a PODER fellow at IIES, as part of her PhD program that she is conducting at Paris School of Economics.

Peng Zhang

Peng Zhang is currently a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on development economics and applied microeconomics with a special interest in identifying and explaining persistent constraints which prevent workers from being well equipped for labour market opportunities in developing countries. She is also interested in related outcomes such as human capital accumulation and household consumption.

Renate Hartwig

Renate Hartwig was a post-doc fellow at the Centre of Research in the Economics of Development (CRED) at the University of Namur in Belgium. Her project in Namur looks at the indirect effects of health insurance and the insurance function of informal savings organisations in the context of Burkina Faso.

Samantha De Martino

Samantha De Martino is a PhD student in the Department of Economics at the University of Sussex. Her main research interests are situated at the nexus of applied microeconomics, behavioral economics, and sustainable development. During her fellowship at the South African Labor & Development Research Unit (SALDRU, UCT) she conducted research on policies promoting access to credit and uptake of technology under climate uncertainty using risk experiments conducted with small scale farmers.
