Elif Kubilay

Elif Kubilay is a PODER fellow in Bocconi University and is currently working on a project titled “Social Networks and Informal Institutions”. Here, they aim to understand the effects of random wealth shocks on the marriage market in Bangladesh through their impact on dowries. With Assist. Prof. Selim Gulesci, she is working on a working paper titled “Assortative Matching in the Marriage Markets: Evidence from Bangladesh”. 

On a broader perspective, Elif is interested in policy related issues, in particular their analyses using experimental methods. She has obtained her doctoral degree from Koc University. During her Phd studies, she has worked on a large scale field experiment, in which the focus was to analyze whether non-cognitive traits such as perseverance, grit and self-control are malleable during childhood. The experiment was a randomized-controlled educational intervention, whose impact was measured through incentivized economics experiments, personality tests as well as teacher and student questionnaires.
