Marina Giovanzana

Marina earned an undergraduate degree in Economics & Finance from the University of Bergamo, Italy. After working for some years, in 2013 she completed a M.Sc. in Applied Labor Economics for Development at the University of Torino, Italy with a thesis that looked at self-employment in Peru’ using age cohorts. In 2014, she joined the ILO (International Labour Organization) Research Department.

During her PODER appointment, Marina worked on the access to credit project and mainly due to the lack and difficulties in finding/obtaining suitable data, turned to self-employment in South Africa, including the role of social pension in entering self-employment. Her research looked at if belonging to a household that receives a social grant plays a role in the self-employment decision
